A qualitative study exploring community perceptions of cash assistance

Since 2022, Ground Truth Solutions, in partnership with the Collaborative Cash Delivery Network (CCD) and Open Space Works Ukraine (OSWU), has been conducting research on the perception of humanitarian cash assistance. Our goal is to amplify the voices of aid recipients and drive meaningful changes in the humanitarian sector.

The research employs a user journey methodology – a qualitative approach that focuses on visualising and understanding individuals‘ interactions with cash
assistance programmes.

Round 3

The report presented research findings at a series of workshops with cash actors in Ukraine, to discuss underlying issues and jointly generate solutions, between May and July 2024. This involved around 200 people involved in cash programmes in Dnipro, Mykolaiv, Kyiv and online.

Round 4

The stories you’ll read were crafted by recipients themselves – women and men from frontline communities, caregivers, farmers, entrepreneurs, and ex-combatants. Through facilitated workshops, they co-created fictional characters that reflect their shared journeys – from learning about cash assistance to navigating complex systems and imagining what comes next

The data presented in these reports is part of an 18-month project funded by the United Kingdom’s Disasters Emergency Committee (DEC) together with the Collaborative Cash Delivery Network (CCD). Implemented between January 2023 and June 2024, the “Collective Initiatives Programme” aims to generate practical, real time learning and build evidence to inform a more accountable, collaborative, and locally driven cash response in Ukraine. The User Journey Mapping is one of five key areas within the programme, alongside Localisation, Data Portability, Collaboration, and Learning.
